Summer Savvy Series

How many of you are ready for SUMMER?!
I LOVE summer layouts... especially since I have had snow into mid May here in Colorado Springs. So, atleast looking at the warm color combinations and summer pictures makes me feel a tad bit warmer.

This week will be a wonderful treat as I share the Summer Savvy Series with you. Over the next few days, you can check out my blog and find new inspirations for your summer layouts!

OH, and did I mention....when you leave a comment on any of the Summer Savvy posts, you will be entered to win a FUN CRAFTY PRIZE Compliments of CRUISE & CROP! Make sure you leave a comment by Friday, May 28 to be eligible for the prize!

This page was a combo of fun summer days spent with friends. I LOVE this WE R MEMORY KEEPERS paper. It's double sided and has so many fun designs. OF COURSE, if you know me, then you know I can't resist the grungy edges and swirly flourishes!

I love taking photos and cropping them to fit a nice layout with straight lines, and a journalistic feel. The numbered circles between the pictures and the journaling also give a journalist feel like we are connecting the photos with a caption.

The title was cut out compliments of my handy dandy SLICE. I drew a frame by hand and cut it out.
BLACK INK on bright colors.
You might notice that I inked up the edges of nearly everything with black ink. This might seem weird since the colors are so bring and cheery, BUT it really add's a 3-D feel to the page.
TRIMMINGS:
You might also note the happy little buttons with ribbon rolled behind on the picture above. My CTMH waxy flax tied in on the buttons is a MUST HAVE in every Craft Studio! And a few rhinestones on the title also add a bit of nice bling.

I must say that it is hard scrapbooking with pictures of the cutest litte guy ever. How do I choose? So often there are tons of adorable shots and so many fun memories to capture in my scrapbook!

This was a super simple page that I thought I would throw in as well since the colors were similar and from the same line of papers. This was a spring conglomeration of different events. You know how there may not have been a whole page worth, but still fun to capture a few shots at the part or time with the family. On the right is a page with pictures from Nate's birthday... Yep, this adorable little guy (Cheri's son) was turning one, and since Noah was a veteran with the whole birthday cake thing, he wanted to help out.
Keep it quick.
This was a layout that I put together in like 30 minutes. No, it doesn't have tons of texture or sparkle, but I am coming to terms that not EVERY layout has to be a big spectacular ordeal.

I love the cupcakes (above) that Cheri decorated. Is she awesome or what?! So cute!
OK, everyone repeat after me... "Empty space is LOVELY." Yes, it's ok, it's fine, and sometimes, when utilized properly, empty space is attractive and quite peaceful! Above you can see my empty space... and I am not ashamed of it. I didn't add stickers, I didn't slop on 10 more pictures, I didn't even muddy it up with my chicken scratch journaling ( a big feat for me!)... NOW, granted it is NOT White space, which is harder to appreciate, BUT, the blue space give you room to breath and enjoy the pictures featured.

BY THE WAY... wanna see an awesome stamp set that could be totally crucial as you stamp some fun summer pages or cards?
>>> Check out Nichole's Awesome "Up Up and Away" set that just came out! I think the awesome distress sunshine would be perfect for a summer layout!
Well, NOW I want to hear from you!? Tell me something you LOVE about SUMMER! The long days? The smell of the grill cooking yummy food. Sandy beaches. The warmth of the sun. The sound of the ice cream truck driving through the neighborhood.
What do YOU love about summer? Memories? Things you want to scrapbook? What?!

  5. I think I scraplift more than I actually scrap! You gave me an idea for using the ribbon with the button on it as a pull tab for a recipe card in a cookbook I am doing! Thanks! P.S. The stamp sets are wonderful. I see them in my future! Thanks for a chance to win also.

  6. Finally... a designer that is willing to put more than one pic on a page. I understand highlighting those "extra Special" pics, but it seems like that is all the designers are doing these days. Thanks for the chance to win. Thanks for the link Gail, November 13rth cant get here fast enough... ready to cruise.

  8. LOVE the statement that 'empty space is lovely', and how you use it in your examples! I am not the kind of scrapper that has a lot of single picture pages, but I also don't want to cram as many pics as possible on all of my pages, either. Sometimes a little clean space is necessary to make the rest of the page "pop"! Thank you for the ideas! terimac96@gmail.com

  9. I love summer time! It means that school's out for me, and I have more time to do what I love...scrapbooking and creating paper crafts. I get to put all my new "toys" that I've collected over the months to the test.
Thanks for sharing your ideas. You've inspired me to start my day today with some summer layouts!

  19. April, I totally agree! PJs all day are a wonderful thing if you ask me! PJs and Pop-tarts and I am a happy camper! Like being a kid again. The fun thing is my two year old would totally love to hang out in his PJs all day, too, so now I have a little buddy to join me and we can just call it "quality time"! Ha!

  23. I am so excited to see so many familiar names leaving comments. Hello to all of our current & past Cruise & Croppers! I too am about to scrapbook those same 4th of July and pool pictures from last year. They are on my crop table right now! Maybe I'll get a few minutes to work on them when Nate goes to sleep. Wait, I think it's nap time right now! :)

    Love ya Tiff-- Cheri

  24. I love grungy edges and swirly flourishes too! I want to open up my pages with more 'empty spaces' because I'm normally uneasy about leaving any area of my page blank, lol! I'm a beginner at the scrapbooking world but I love it so far. I have learned it's an expensive habit!
