- I love the color combo on this card. The cool thing that I hope you have been seeing is that the grunge and distressed style pretty much works seamlessly with all color combinations! ( I haven't tried it out with pastels, but I am sure a crafty mastermind could pull it off.) Bright colors, dark colors, muted colors, tone on tones, boy colors, girl colors. (I am starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss book!) They all work and the grunge graphics bring great life to all of them. :)
This card has a bit of a modern feel with cut out frames and mesh to add a lot of clean lines. I just wanted to show some different ways to use the sentiments even on the outside of the card. And I love the fresh colors from PTI: Enchanted Evening, Spring Moss, and New Leaf. The card below features: Ocean Tides, Dark Chocolate and the mesh is a match to the Teracotta Tile. 
This card brings up my... - GRUNGE DESIGN TIP OF THE DAY: It's all about FRAMING!
- Keep your focal point clear and use grunge elements to frame it, not distract. A LOT of grunge design these days hinges on "messy frames" but it's still all purposeful. The card above has the simple framing with the circles around the sentiment strip. If I was going all out I might had some of the grassy elements, stripes, and splotches in coordinating colors to make it more interesting. Utilizing the corner of your frames is a nice option, too.You can add swirls bouncing of the edge... and symmetricality is not a priority in this style... just make sure it feels balanced and the elements tell your eye what is most important to look at. I think I will make a fun card that is ALL OUT GRUNGE for you on the release day to demonstrate. The lovely thing about framing your card with your stamps is you don't have to have tons of layers to make it look interesting. See how simple this card is? Yet it feels complete. You have the power of making a designer edgy paper, but you have control to utilize elements for the best of the project. No compromise! I love that!

I especially like the splatters and the stamps to make the new card look older, like also the 'cardboard' syamp in My father, my hero. I would love more of that, maybe things like grunge stitching, canvas shape, scratches, staples, teared up paper, things like that, to add a touch to your card. For themes... well, I always love birthday themes, as well as Friendship cards, but that's personal, because these are the cards I send out the most! Love these sets you designed and can't wait to see more in the future!!

ReplyDelete(Grungy, maybe) I am always looking for 'car' stuff...not little boy stuff, but big boy hot rods, old show cars and tools. My hubby loves old muscle cars, and so do I!
ReplyDeleteGrunge is awesome and not just for boys. So many projects can be done with this set for girls with combinations of pink, green and smokey shadow. New ideas, ways to integrate grunge into dance themed projects. My daughter does jazz, tap and hip hop so I am always looking for new products to create scrapbook pages and cards.

I would love to see even more grunge images for making backgrounds - scratchy, splattery, drippy, maybe some images that could be used to make a wide grunge line frame (around a photo, or the border of a card). Grunge sports images would be great, as well as birthday-theme images. Really, I would just love all of them!
ReplyDeleteI am loving your new set! I didn't consider myself a "grunge" person but I love the textures. I would like to see more textures, such as the corrugated stamp in your other set. I'd love to see more elements along those lines.

My son would love to make "cool" Valentines for the kids in his class with stamps that are geared toward a boy's taste. Thanks for letting me share my idea! ReplyDeleteI didn't know what grunge was or that I would like it until I saw your stamp set and all the possibilities. Now, it is definitely going in my cart tonight. For the future, possibly something with a beach/surfer dude feel. I live in a little beach town in S. Cal. and that would be great for me.

Textures...is what comes to mind when I think of grunge. I cant wait to get this stamp set home. To actually have a stamp set designed with boys in mind is just awesome. I would love to see some sportsy-grungy type stamps too. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteGreat sets Tiffany! I would love to see more grungy background building sets in the future. The other thing I would like to see is something grungy for Christmas. I try to steer away from being too traditional with my Christmas cards, and now I am starting to think that a grungy card might work. Any of the holidays would be great!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards, as for what I would like to see grunge sets for, I think something that is for the college student. I have two kids in college, one a boy and one a girl. I would probably send the girl more cards than the boy, so more girly would be better. And just for everyday, not just birthday or some other holiday.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm a farm girl. You get awfylly grungy on a farm. Maybe a pitch fork with hay. That could go along with a fall theme that people were commenting about.

ReplyDeleteI have girls, and would love to see girl grunge. Rock star, teen angst, sports (girls can do anything boys can do), and especially diva. I'd like to see a teen grunge diva (not cartoonish), but realistic, confident, able to do anything. So maybe a girl in several different poses (hands on hips, arms out wide and even the requisite crown) with complimentary sentiments - positive, strong, I'm different and proud of it.
I'd like a crafty girl, but more than sewing.
Finally, I'd like to see something with the arts - music, art, theatre. Musical notes, sheet music, art supplies, theatre masks, stages, curtains, etc.
As you can see, I do have a few ideas. Thanks for asking.
Love all the new releases from PTI this month. So much variety! Your grunge set is awesome. Everyone gave some great ideas... I love the Theater arts ideas, and grown up cars/ classic car ideas! I was thinking about a "grunge" holiday idea and I thought that Easter and the CROSS image would fit into a "grunge" theme... rustic/ etc. Good Luck with the release!
ReplyDeleteGrunge ideas - swirly, like ocean waves; crackled paint; how about a camouflage-y grunge?; concrete looking? Sports are HUGE in my house so a sports-grunge set would be great, maybe incorporate the net image in the grunge. Also the pattern of a basketball floor.

ReplyDeleteTeen/tween birthdays. It is so hard to figure out what to do (especially boys) for the age after "cutsie". Grunge could work then I think? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think grunge doesn't have to be "image related" necessarily but "texture"... if there is a way to translate a look of texture (like you did with that one stamp in My Dad, My Hero) into a stamp... then THAT would be grunge. Something to stamp onto the new coasters and rough them up a bit and boom we are done. (kinda like TH Grungeboard, kwim?). LOVE YOUR SETS THIS MONTH :-)
ReplyDeleteI think grunge works with most any holiday. I love the texture and interest it adds. It would be fun to do a pastel grunge card - just using the paint splatters as accents - kind of soft and girly. Seems to me like fall would be a good grunge season - there are brown crunchy leaves all over the ground - maybe grungy flowers. Just some ideas - I love both these new sets!

ReplyDeleteI love the grunge style. You can use it for almost any holiday or event. Christmas would be a great place to use the grunge style. I can see a grunge/distressed background with a Christmas tree being the focal point. (Maybe a "Charlie Brown" style Christmas tree. Ha!) Thanksgiving or Fall cards would be a perfect place for some grunge with Autumn leaves, pumpkins, or maybe even a scarecrow.

I could really use more automotive images (real cars - antiques, muscle cars, jeeps, etc). Also tool type images, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc, - anything mechanical (but not "ball-type" sports) Thanks for the chance to put in some input.

ReplyDeleteI think grunge works most easily with Halloween and with ipod/music-related/gamer kind of themes. For a grungy girl set maybe stuff like spilled nailpolishes and smeared lipsticks, notebook doodles (heart & 4-eva and stuff)... things like that? I have been LOVING the design element options your sets offer, for all kinds of versatile backgrounds - thank you for creating it, and thank you for the chance to win them!!

ReplyDeleteI really didn't think I was a grunge type but seeing your set changed my mind. Backgrounds would be terrific for any type of card. I love the idea of the texture it gives.
ReplyDeleteI have never, ever tried anything remotely grunge, but your set this month has me dying to give it a try. I know this may seem wierd, but using the grunge set in some way with the Friendship Jar series would be very interesting to see. I struggle so much with that set although I love it. I bet you could come up with something fabulous.

I think that these sets will solve that problem! So excited! I have never had a grunge set, so I am thrilled with this one.

ReplyDeleteI'd love a girly, grungy princess set. Messy swirls, crowns, flower accents, flourishes and stars. Can you imagine it stamped in hot pink and black? Or soft blush and muted greens? You could target the girly tweens out there...
