Introducing GRUNGE ME and My Hero, My Dad (Day 5)

Hello Ladies! I will skip right to the prize... since my blog post is late in coming- you deserve a treat for your patience. See details below to win your own set of "My Hero, My Dad"!!! :) We are featuring cards with my stamp sets RELEASING TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT!

  • GRUNGE ME: retails at $15 at the Papertrey Ink website

  • My Hero, My Dad: retails for $24 at the Papertrey Ink website

  • Check out the sidebar to right on this page for recent posts featuring fun designs!

  • I love the color combo on this card. The cool thing that I hope you have been seeing is that the grunge and distressed style pretty much works seamlessly with all color combinations! ( I haven't tried it out with pastels, but I am sure a crafty mastermind could pull it off.) Bright colors, dark colors, muted colors, tone on tones, boy colors, girl colors. (I am starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss book!) They all work and the grunge graphics bring great life to all of them. :) This card has a bit of a modern feel with cut out frames and mesh to add a lot of clean lines. I just wanted to show some different ways to use the sentiments even on the outside of the card. And I love the fresh colors from PTI: Enchanted Evening, Spring Moss, and New Leaf. The card below features: Ocean Tides, Dark Chocolate and the mesh is a match to the Teracotta Tile. This card brings up my...

  • GRUNGE DESIGN TIP OF THE DAY: It's all about FRAMING!

  • Keep your focal point clear and use grunge elements to frame it, not distract. A LOT of grunge design these days hinges on "messy frames" but it's still all purposeful. The card above has the simple framing with the circles around the sentiment strip. If I was going all out I might had some of the grassy elements, stripes, and splotches in coordinating colors to make it more interesting. Utilizing the corner of your frames is a nice option, too.You can add swirls bouncing of the edge... and symmetricality is not a priority in this style... just make sure it feels balanced and the elements tell your eye what is most important to look at. I think I will make a fun card that is ALL OUT GRUNGE for you on the release day to demonstrate. The lovely thing about framing your card with your stamps is you don't have to have tons of layers to make it look interesting. See how simple this card is? Yet it feels complete. You have the power of making a designer edgy paper, but you have control to utilize elements for the best of the project. No compromise! I love that!

It's PRIZE TIME! Leave a Comment on my blog... and here's what I want to know... if you have have a themed set with a grunge twist... what would it be? A holiday? Any specific images you would love? Something on the girly side? (I am fishing for hints as I design sets for the upcoming year!) Leave a comment and you are eligible to WIN the "My Hero, My Dad". The winner will be announced on April 16th!! So be sure to check and see if you won!!!

I have LOVED blogging with you all this week! You are such an encouragement and full of ideas!

All Smiles,

Tiffany

  3. Definitely girly, bright colors or light pinks yellow and green. Brights for the playing outside LOs!

  4. Hi Tiffany!

Great cards here with you today! I love the new sets and I love the grunge style! I especially like the splatters and the stamps to make the new card look older, like also the 'cardboard' syamp in My father, my hero. I would love more of that, maybe things like grunge stitching, canvas shape, scratches, staples, teared up paper, things like that, to add a touch to your card. For themes... well, I always love birthday themes, as well as Friendship cards, but that's personal, because these are the cards I send out the most! Love these sets you designed and can't wait to see more in the future!!
    Hugs, Wendy

  5. Oh hey and you know what....this set would be AWESOME for the Halloween theme! Orange on black with splats Yellow with purple...it would POP for sure!

  6. Grunge for sports themes! Play hard and get dirty!

  7. I always thought that fall & grunge would go well together. Some funky swirls with crinkly leaves, smuggy texts, brick background with pumpkins.

  8. (Grungy, maybe) I am always looking for 'car' stuff...not little boy stuff, but big boy hot rods, old show cars and tools. My hubby loves old muscle cars, and so do I!

  9. Grunge is awesome and not just for boys. So many projects can be done with this set for girls with combinations of pink, green and smokey shadow. New ideas, ways to integrate grunge into dance themed projects. My daughter does jazz, tap and hip hop so I am always looking for new products to create scrapbook pages and cards.

  10. I love grunge! I would love to see even more grunge images for making backgrounds - scratchy, splattery, drippy, maybe some images that could be used to make a wide grunge line frame (around a photo, or the border of a card). Grunge sports images would be great, as well as birthday-theme images. Really, I would just love all of them!

  11. I am loving your new set! I didn't consider myself a "grunge" person but I love the textures. I would like to see more textures, such as the corrugated stamp in your other set. I'd love to see more elements along those lines.

  12. I would love to have a Grunge Valentine set. I'm in a house full of boys and most Valentine things are too cutesy for them. My son would love to make "cool" Valentines for the kids in his class with stamps that are geared toward a boy's taste. Thanks for letting me share my idea! And thanks for a chance to win My Hero, My Dad!!! That's my favorite set!!!!!

  13. I am SOOO loving the grunge-y cards! I would like to continue to see the distressed backgrounds... like the tattered paper look or worn look. I think these stamps add so much to a simple card!

  14. Hi Tiffany, thanks for your great posts during countdown! Your tips are wonderful and will help me achieve the grunge look without looking sloppy or misplaced. I would like to see more girly grunge - Flourishes, flowers, damask, etc. Also, a grunge sentiments, or font set would be nice. Thanks for asking. :)

  15. I didn't know what grunge was or that I would like it until I saw your stamp set and all the possibilities. Now, it is definitely going in my cart tonight. For the future, possibly something with a beach/surfer dude feel. I live in a little beach town in S. Cal. and that would be great for me.

  16. I agree with all of the above suggestions especially the Halloween, Valentine and girl grunge, but considering everything mentioned above I would be thrilled with any of it. Thank you for the chance to win a cool stamp set.

  17. WOW!!!
i love all the great textures here!
how about some tool things, like screws, nails, nuts and bolts, carpentry things. i know lots of my guys like those things. i also know that anything you do will be awesome. thanks for the chance to win. i appreciate your inspiration!

  18. Textures...is what comes to mind when I think of grunge. I cant wait to get this stamp set home. To actually have a stamp set designed with boys in mind is just awesome. I would love to see some sportsy-grungy type stamps too. Thanks for the chance to win.

  19. Great sets Tiffany! I would love to see more grungy background building sets in the future. The other thing I would like to see is something grungy for Christmas. I try to steer away from being too traditional with my Christmas cards, and now I am starting to think that a grungy card might work. Any of the holidays would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Grungy stuff for girls would be cool. And I agree with the post above regarding a grunge valentine set!

  21. Beautiful cards, as for what I would like to see grunge sets for, I think something that is for the college student. I have two kids in college, one a boy and one a girl. I would probably send the girl more cards than the boy, so more girly would be better. And just for everyday, not just birthday or some other holiday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Personally I'm a farm girl. You get awfylly grungy on a farm. Maybe a pitch fork with hay. That could go along with a fall theme that people were commenting about.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think a grunge set for a rockstar theme would be fun! I can see using hot pink, black, silver, and a bright purple to make a birthday card with a rockstar-ish twist for a 16 yr old. Thanks for the giveaway and very cute cards!!!

  24. Great new set and love your examples.

I have girls, and would love to see girl grunge. Rock star, teen angst, sports (girls can do anything boys can do), and especially diva. I'd like to see a teen grunge diva (not cartoonish), but realistic, confident, able to do anything. So maybe a girl in several different poses (hands on hips, arms out wide and even the requisite crown) with complimentary sentiments - positive, strong, I'm different and proud of it.

I'd like a crafty girl, but more than sewing.

Finally, I'd like to see something with the arts - music, art, theatre. Musical notes, sheet music, art supplies, theatre masks, stages, curtains, etc.

As you can see, I do have a few ideas. Thanks for asking.

  25. Love all the new releases from PTI this month. So much variety! Your grunge set is awesome. Everyone gave some great ideas... I love the Theater arts ideas, and grown up cars/ classic car ideas! I was thinking about a "grunge" holiday idea and I thought that Easter and the CROSS image would fit into a "grunge" theme... rustic/ etc. Good Luck with the release!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Grunge ideas - swirly, like ocean waves; crackled paint; how about a camouflage-y grunge?; concrete looking? Sports are HUGE in my house so a sports-grunge set would be great, maybe incorporate the net image in the grunge. Also the pattern of a basketball floor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just love all the textures- there are so many different ways to use them, and not just on grunge cards! Love what you have done with your stamps this month!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Teen/tween birthdays. It is so hard to figure out what to do (especially boys) for the age after "cutsie". Grunge could work then I think? Maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sometimes I think grunge doesn't have to be "image related" necessarily but "texture"... if there is a way to translate a look of texture (like you did with that one stamp in My Dad, My Hero) into a stamp... then THAT would be grunge. Something to stamp onto the new coasters and rough them up a bit and boom we are done. (kinda like TH Grungeboard, kwim?). LOVE YOUR SETS THIS MONTH :-)

  30. I think grunge works with most any holiday. I love the texture and interest it adds. It would be fun to do a pastel grunge card - just using the paint splatters as accents - kind of soft and girly. Seems to me like fall would be a good grunge season - there are brown crunchy leaves all over the ground - maybe grungy flowers. Just some ideas - I love both these new sets!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am loving the grunge! Your samples are awesome. I would love to see more textures; much like the currogated cardboard look. Burlap, canvas and tattered paper for example. As for themes I think a birthday or music set in grunge would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great stamp sets love the grunge style!
Some more girly perhaps and B-day and old looking style, old newspaper, cloth.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I never would have thought the grunge look would appeal to. But I am really liking the look right now! I would love to see a Valentine set and maybe something a little more girly. Halloween would work well with the grunge look, too!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sports! 5 grandsons, enough said.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think can work for anybody or any occasion! As far as images, I would love a coffee ring! Maybe some sentiments about getting your fingers dirty, making a mess, or grit and determination. Just thinking lots of texture!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I saw someone's comment above, and I'd have to agree: I'd looove more grungey texture/background type stamps (like the paint splatter and corrugated cardboard)!

For some reason, a grunge rainbow also popped into my head when I read your question... I don't know how that would work, so I'll leave it to the grunge expert! ;)

  37. Hi Tiffany, I agree with several of the other posters. I think that a Halloween grunge set would be awesome. My second vote would be for a sports-themed grunge set... multiple sports like football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, basketball. Thanks for the chance to win!

  38. Hey! First i gotta say that I loved following for blog these last couple days and seeing the cards you came up with using these sets. I would love to see a grunge set for Christmas or even Halloween.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd like to see a grunge birthday set. That would be helpful for male/boy birthdays too, as well as teenage girls! A Halloween one would be fun too!

    ReplyDelete
  40. i would love a girly-grunge set and a birthday grunge set. i also like the ideas of sports and or car grunge; a lot of what is out there is for little boys.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the grunge style. You can use it for almost any holiday or event. Christmas would be a great place to use the grunge style. I can see a grunge/distressed background with a Christmas tree being the focal point. (Maybe a "Charlie Brown" style Christmas tree. Ha!) Thanksgiving or Fall cards would be a perfect place for some grunge with Autumn leaves, pumpkins, or maybe even a scarecrow.

  42. Hey Tiffany,
It's been a great week and I can't wait till the release. So much to take in and lots of inspiration!
I would love to see a grunge set with a Patriotic theme...we could use it for 4th of July, Memorial Day, Election Years, Military cards, etc. I think a grunge theme with stars, stripes, swirls and fireworks would be awesome.
Thanks for asking and for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'd love to see a girly grunge set. I have both boys and girls in my family, so that would make it complete!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  44. These sets are awesome!! I would love to see a real grungy Valentine set. That would be so cool!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. These sets are wonderful! I would love to see girly grunge too and maybe some holiday grunge with Seasonal stamps

    ReplyDelete
  46. Love the GRUNGE!....How about something prehistoric or Hawaiian Tiki like masks, beach/waves, flowers, pirates, or something nautical? Love what you have created. Thanks for asking.

  47. I am the only female in a house of men - I am looking forward to using this grunge set to create cards for them. I could really use more automotive images (real cars - antiques, muscle cars, jeeps, etc). Also tool type images, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc, - anything mechanical (but not "ball-type" sports) Thanks for the chance to put in some input.
I also could see a use for a grungy kitchen :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Tiffany, I'd love to see a grunge set for babies!!! Thanks for the inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  49. These are great collage elements and can be easily adapted to a girly theme - change teh color, add a few cute swirls and BAM! It will be just amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think grunge works most easily with Halloween and with ipod/music-related/gamer kind of themes. For a grungy girl set maybe stuff like spilled nailpolishes and smeared lipsticks, notebook doodles (heart & 4-eva and stuff)... things like that? I have been LOVING the design element options your sets offer, for all kinds of versatile backgrounds - thank you for creating it, and thank you for the chance to win them!!

  51. I love both your sets this month, Tiffany! The Grunge Me set is particularly awesome because it's so versatile in different colours and the images could be used to decorate other shapes. I would personally love to see a grunge twist on fashion and a grunge-style impression plate!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would love to see a girly grunge set. I also think it would be fun to see Halloween & Valentines in grunge-style. Your 2 sets this month look so fun!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love Vintage grunge!! This is a great set Tiffany :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. A grunge twist on outdoorsy activities would be great. Camping, fishing, canoeing, boating, hiking even gardening. Stamps for masculine cards but not only for men and not to serious, something for teenagers and men/women that are active.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love your new stamp sets Tiffany! How about some bold lines all grunged up?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm never good at coming up with suggestions for new stamp ideas! I guess I will echo a lot of other people and say a set themed toward girls. Thanks for all the great ideas of ways to use these sets.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I really didn't think I was a grunge type but seeing your set changed my mind. Backgrounds would be terrific for any type of card. I love the idea of the texture it gives.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have never, ever tried anything remotely grunge, but your set this month has me dying to give it a try. I know this may seem wierd, but using the grunge set in some way with the Friendship Jar series would be very interesting to see. I struggle so much with that set although I love it. I bet you could come up with something fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I really struggle every year to make cards for Father's Day. I always want to express my feelings in a card, but usually end up buying one because I just can't make one I love. I think that these sets will solve that problem! So excited! I have never had a grunge set, so I am thrilled with this one.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I've loved seeing what's been done with this set - great grungey look!

I'd like to see more urban, graffiti-ish stuff. It's so hard to come up with cards/projects for guys so the more the better!

    ReplyDelete
  61. A grungy birthday set would be awesome. Maybe with the same typewriter and outline fonts as the My Dad set?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'd love a girly, grungy princess set. Messy swirls, crowns, flower accents, flourishes and stars. Can you imagine it stamped in hot pink and black? Or soft blush and muted greens? You could target the girly tweens out there...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ooohhh, just thought of another one. How about grungy background script? You can have an elegant scrawl, cursive loopies, or fancy flourished.

BTW - I just had to have Grunge Me from this release. Can't wait for my package to arrive!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love both of these sets! Thought you might like to see a card featuring them :)
