Papertrey Ink August Countdown: Embellishments, day 4

Hey there to all my blogging buddies!
What a fun and full week with all the countdown festivities for the Papertrey August release. I have been so encouraged by your enthusiasm for my PTI stamp set: "Embellishments" which releases on Sunday, August 15!
.......................................................................
If you want to catch up on this week's projects, check out the links below for my countdown postings.
>>>DAY ONE
>>>DAY TWO
>>>DAY THREE
..........AND, Don't forget Nichole's awesome showcase of the stamp set as well!

This card was made with a very special man in mind. Since I was a little girl, my dad was my hero. Even though he was not a firefighter, he did put out a good share of fires growing up. What made him a great dad was not just that he was around to put fires out, but that he watered the foundations of our hearts with quality time, boundless love, unmeasurable generosity, and a blasting firehose of prayer! ha! I truly do have a GREAT DAD! So, while I wanted to make him a birthday card, and at the same time was knee deep in "Embellishments" projects, I decided to merge the two and give you countdown day of masculine cards. I have heard many of you mention the idea of using this set with masculine themes, and I think you are right!!! I almost love this style the most! Happy Birthday, Dad! I love you!

DETAILS, DETAILS!
>>>Embellishments is used with the seamless repeated flourish which I trimmed out to create a fun border. And I really like the color combo with the "Golden Berry Green" glitter from Martha Stewart, red felt, and gray cardstock background. These colors are found in the AtoZ pattern paper.
>>>How great is this fleur-de-lise? I think it has a strong quality about it.
>>>The AWESOME vintage digi stamp is called "Fire 1" from Digital Tuesday.
>>>The sentiment utilizes the same font from the Embellishments stamp set and captures a small picture of my dad through the description below the title: My Hero.
>>> Though it's pretty hard to see in the pictures, I did stamp the border stamp from Embellishments along the bottom gray strip in a subtle gray ink. Hard to see in the picture, but it gave a nice touch to the card in person.
This next card is also very special to me. A dear family friend is headed to France for a year long mission trip with Campus Crusade for Christ. To honor his obedience and faithfulness to love on people and serve God, I wanted to give him a card of encouragement. So, here's another fun look utilizing masculinity with the Embellishments stamp set.

I love the brown and orange combo for this card. You can find orange in the flowers, eyelet lace die, thread tied bow, and rhinestones to the right under the sentiment. These colors seem to fit perfectly for the summer and last all through the fall. :)
You will see the larger flourish stamped around the edge of the background in black and the medium flourished stamped on PTI Spring Moss paper and trimmed for another backround. I also think you could used that image to create the look of ocean waves for a vacation, beachy, or surfer themed card! :) Couldn't that be cute?! You could keep it subtle or add some fun glitter or embossing to give it some shine. :)

Above I decorated the inside of the card with the Spring Moss and Brown colors to frame up a scripture of encouragement that has totally blessed me this year.
OK... it's our FAVORITE part! Time for a PRIZE!!!
>>>Post a comment and you are eligible to win a fun goody bag with crafty supplies chosen to coordinate nicely with your Embellishments stamp set! (Just a head's up, tomorrow I will be giving away a PTI Embellishments stamp set, too! So be sure to come on back!)
>>> Prize winners will all be posted together on my blog on Sunday, August 15!
>>> SO...today featured some options for creating masculine cards. Tell me, if you had an Embellishments stamp set in your hand right now, how would you use it for a masculine card? What textures, embellishments, colors would you use? Who might it be for? Let me know for your chance to win!
Happy Birthday, Dad! And Happy Birthday to my little 5 pound yorkie today!
We are soooo close to the release! How can you stand the excitement?!
>>Sending lots of love to all my crafty friends!

  1. I'd be making a birthday card for my brother. One of the flourish embellishments looks an awful lot like water to me. Since my brother is an avid fly fisherman, a "river" card would be most appropriate!

  3. Hmm, I would use it as background in masculine colors. Browns, greens...twine and buttons. Now I have all kinds of ideas twirling around in my head...LOL!

  4. I think I would make a rememberance piece for my Sister, Brother, and Mother who have all gone to our Saviour, Lord Jesus Christ., I think I would use the flourishes in a gold tone maybe on some type of cream colored paper then adhere their pictures to each one., and of course decorate it. Thanks for the chance to win. I am really loving this set. Alice Roushia

  7. Where do all the ideas come from?
I would use twine, buttons and maybe a staple or two to make it look more masculine. My husband would be the receiver and it would be a card to say "I love you"

  12. I love how you flipped a feminine "flourish" and made it into a masculine "accent"! These cards are beautiful, and I can imagine your new stamp getting a lot of us by me! Thanks for the inspiration - and your dad must have been an inspiration to you, too!

  14. I love all your elements on here...the fireman image....the scripture...the fleur de lis....the felt....wow; frilly and yet masculine cards. What a great job you've done this month!
You know...embellies to make a masculine card really challenge me. I do add buttons to them...I would have a hard time with felt though.....but I like the thought. I need help with embellies on masculine cards!

  15. Seriously, I am just falling more and more in love with this set! I can't believe what you did with it today. I have a hard time with masculine cards, thinking they need to be 'plain and simple', but these cards are anything but! I love the textures and colours you've used and will definitely be playing around with these new ideas. I think this may be the most versatile set I have ever seen - I LOVE IT!! And thank you for sharing about your dad. Your card, and the kind words, reminded me how important it is to tell people how much they mean to us. You've inspired me to make a card for my dad, just to let him know how much I appreciate and love him. Thanks for an amazing stamp set and all the incredible inspiration!

  16. What an inspired way to use the Embellishments! I would have never thought about using swirls on a masculine card, but that really works well! I like the look!

Thanks so much for sharing! Your sweet spirit just shines through in this post! I really appreciate your inspiration!

  17. Masculine cards are the hardest for me to create so this is a hard one for me. I would use twine, buttons, and the colors red and black with this set to try to create a manly card.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I also struggle with masculine cards for people on my prayer list that I send cards to... I would probably use brown and orange or kraft and blue and try to use some of the inspiration you have given me with your wonderful examples of how easy a masculine card can be...thank you for sharing! I love this set!

  19. Lovely work Tiffany! That stamp set is to die for! Can't wait to get my hands on it! You card is awesome! Love that little fireman!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kraft seems to be my "go-to" for masculine cards. I really like the looks of this set, Tiffany, esp. with the borders...Nice job!

    ReplyDelete
  21. my husband's birthday is coming up and i would probably use the flourishes to create a background...i'm thinking brown on kraft paper:)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wow, gorgeous card. So beautiful and so non-masculine but still so masculine. Gorgeous.

I'm afraid of masculine cards. I like kraft for a masculine card, and a clean and simple style.

Thanks for this chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would use it on a card for my husband. I like to use browns and blues with kraft when I make masculine cards.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Seeing how you stamped the flourishes in a row gave me another "masculine" card idea... I think the flourish would also look awesome stamped on navy cardstock with Versamark ink to form waves...paired with a sailboat or lighthouse image, you would have a great masculine card! Thanks again for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  25. What a great set! My dad was a fireman, too, so your card spoke right up to me. Love all the colors and details.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would make a birthday card for my Dad. I would use Aqua Mist, White and Smokey Shadow as my color palate. As for patterns I think i would use the flourishes along with some argyle or diamonds.

    Thanks for your beautiful creations!

  27. The dust from a horse in a rodeo? Or a sportscar at high speed? With a royal hand of cards? Or a king's crown!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lovely masculine cards and great encouraging sentiments that are on them!

    ReplyDelete
  29. for my masculine cards i use a lot of kraft, browns and greens in combination or varying shades of blue. i use twine instead of ribbon.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, a card for my hubby for sure. Kraft, dark chocolate and some green would round out a "bass fishing" themed card. I can see the large mouth bass jumping up from some of those great flourishes!!

  31. GORGEOUS SET!!! My Dad is a big New Orleans Saints fan, so I'd make a Fleur-de-lis card for him in honor of the Saints. (it's their "mascot".) And lots of black & gold. I can't wait to get my hands on this set!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. For masculine cards, I love the tone on tone looks with clear embossing powder. I think that Embellishments as a clear embossed border would be striking with a simple sentiments. I love the scripture card! Heather C

  33. What a great card and tribute to your dad, I am sure he will love it! And yay for the friend who is going out for campus crusade! My DS has been working at our church camp all summer and is now thinking of switching schools to go from bio major to . the pastorate. We'll see! I think for a guy card, you could use the embellishment set swirls on blue for a foamy ocean background? And the fleur de lis in black on white makes a classic card for anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I definitely think Embellishments has possibilities for making projects for the men in our lives!!! Probably the first thing that comes to mind is using the flourishes to make waves in beach scene! I can also totally see them creating a Rocker look, perhaps coming out from behind an image from Star Prints! Can't wait to start putting some of these ideas to paper!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love that first card, my husband is a Firefighter. Never would have thought to use swirls on such a masculine card, but it looks gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I find male cards very difficult to make. Thanks for inspiration. I would love to make such a card for my brother.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am in love with this flourish! Your samples are gorgeous!! Beautiful set, Tiffany!

    ReplyDelete
  38. What an inspiration! My husband has a birthday coming up and I can't wait to get this set and start playing!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The flourish in Embellishments reminds me of a pattern on a tie. I think it would be neat to make a card with a tie on it, and use the flourish to make a pattern on the tie.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My husband is a big fisherman so I would use this embellishment for water. I love how versatile it is...for grunge, backgrounds, the sky is the limit and it tworks so GREAT for a masculine cards. Love what you did with it. When I go to create a masculine card I usually grab white, kraft, chocolate brown, greens, and blue.

  41. Tiffany you definately read my mind with this stamp set. I was thinking that PTI had to come out with a thick and rustic looking swirl for use on masculine cards. I agree that this kind of swirl could be used as waves with the Aloha set (the surf board) but I think it works best as background behind masculine themed focal points. Tone on tone is a perfect way to add interest to a masculine card background!! And I think these flourishes would look great in 70's colors (kinda like you did here today). Thanks for creating what was in my head!! LOL!!!

  42. This a beautiful stamp set. These cards are just wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There is always a hero in our hearts and what a wonderful card and so masculine. You did a great job and the detail on the little guy is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like your idea of using it for a beach or waterfront scene so I would use it to make a sailboat card for my son.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My goodness! I love how you took a feminine image and used it on a masculine card--and an awesome card at that! I would like to make some similar cards. Great job.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I really like your masculine card. The colors and theme are awesome! Can't wait to see more!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Blue-green waves with the flourish and Dawn's surfboard for a birthday card for my son. His favorite spot is a beach in MA. Kinda' hard to get to when you are out of vacation days and you live in Chicago. Embellisments is a fab set with lots of uses!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Embellishments makes awesome masculine cards too. Anything in earth tone colors or some grays with a touch of aqua would be awesome colors I would try. Love your cards - great inspiration! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I just really love those flourishes and I love how you made a masculine card with it.

  50. I have to be honest that I'm not totally sure I can use the flourish on a masculine card, but I'd love to have this set so that I could see IF I could make it work. I admit it's a stretch for me -- how's that for honesty??? Having said that, I totally LOVE flourishes for every other type of card!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hmmm....a masculine card with a flourish stamp. I think I would use the flourish stamp with a Versamark stamp pad as a classic background to the card. Subtle but effective.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love how you show cased the flourishes to show that not only are they feminine but also work well on a masculine card. I love the flue-de-lise image. My husband loves this image and I would have to make him a card using it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. If I had Embellishments in hand, I would use it to make waves. The men in my family love boating and fishing - the waves would be perfect for a card for them!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think I would use the flourishes to make a grunge type card. It would work for both my hubby and for my teenage nephews. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work and for the chance to win! Naz

    ReplyDelete
  55. The florishes in your first card remind me of waves. How about waves with a boat. I can't seem to make a masculine card without blue. I try to avoid red and of course, pink and purple.

    ReplyDelete
  56. This stamp set is so great to use in all types of cards. Thanks for the great inspiring samples of masculine cards today. Like other readers I would not have thought of using those flourishes or swirls on a masculine card, but you have inspired me to try that on my next masculine birthday card, and thank you card. I love how you used the flourishes and borders on your cards and would try to incorporate that idea on my card. I like to use browns with terracotta on masculine cards, also blues with kraft. I loved the idea of one commenter who said to use kraft with the aqua. I think that would be a great card, for either masculine or feminine. Thanks for all the great inspiring ideas.

  57. My brother has a birthday in Oct.so I could use the flourishes as background in Veramark on Kraft base. Then fall colors for other details on the card. Thanks for the chance. to win. Thanks to for the "men" cards. We need more of those.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I really like your idea to use the flourish as a wave! I think I would make a card for my teenage nephew with the "wave" and a surfboard. Who would have thought??? Thanks so much for your ideas and your use of scripture - I'd like to see more of it in PTI stamps.

  59. Wow, amazing cards. And for such a great reason!!!

  60. You did an excellent job of showcasing the masculine appeal of Embellishments! Happy birthday to your dad and little pup!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Happy Birthday to your Dad! And happy birthday to your yorkie too! I loved the sneak peeks where the flourishes were used to create my own DP; I would it that to make cards for my husband mostly, but occasionally for my BILs and FIL as well, and of course for the soldiers overseas. Thanks for the chance to win Tiffany!

  62. What a touching card! Love the colors and sentiments/scriptures. I just love your new embellishments stamp set. Those flourishes are awesome and you can make any kind of a card with them... endless possibilities! If I had this set to use right now for a masculine card, I would use these colors: cream, kraft, dark choc and ripe avocado. For texture I might use a PTI embossing or cuttlebug folder, and grossgrain ribbon or a ric-rac border for an embellishment. Thanks for the inspiration and the chance to win your new stamp set.

  63. This set is fast becoming something I will just HAVE to have! Far more versatile than I originally thought as well. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love all of the water themed ideas, but to put another spin on it, the large flourish reminds me of wind, so I think I would use that idea as the core for my card. I'd experiment with blues and grays, with navy as an accent colour - make sure the design has lots of movement. I love a bit of whimsy, so maybe sponge layered clouds in the background using a scallop circle as a template, then stamp, colour, cut out and layer on the silhouette airplane from the 'Fly Away' set? I would colour the plane according to the age of my 'masculine' recipient. If it's someone younger, you could even try tiny punched or shaped cotton cosmetic pads to create exhaust 'puffs' for the plane. I love brainstorming something like this...:)

  65. Love your card. It really touched my heart as I lost my father this morning. tfs.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I like to use grays and blues for masculine cards - maybe use some flourishes for a background with Versamark. . .

    ReplyDelete
  67. Your cards show how versatile Embellishments is - never thought to use items like flourishes on masculine cards but they work really well. Thanks for the inspiration and the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Your hero card is just beautiful. I love this set, it can be used in so many cool ways. I think for masculine cards I would use dark colors and make a cool background with the stamps.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'd use your Embellishments set on a masculine card by choosing masculine colors and minimal "extras". And I love your card -- my dad WAS a fireman. In fact, he was the fire chief in our small town!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Could I twist those flourishes around somehow and make deer horns for a card for my husband? I think I could try.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would use Kraft, Versamark and twine to make a wonderful masculine card. This is a beautiful set of images. Thanks very much for such a versatile, year round set of stamps.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm thinking the flourishes would make some excellent exhaust fumes from whatever kind of vehicle you might need for the man in the your life - sports car, motorcycle, farm equipment, maybe even a boat - or what about the snow spray from skiing down the mountain? Wow - what a versatile set - can't wait to get my hands on it!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Masculine cards are so difficult for me to make. I do love the color combos you'd used on both cards, so I would lean more toward the neutrals. It was my 2yr anniversary on Wednesday and I still owe hubby a card! He might think the flourishes might be a bit girly, but I'd prob use it as a subtle background and compliment it with some patterned papers.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I really like this flourish stamped as a border and teamed with stripes. That's definitely the background for a masculine card and adding an image with the recipient in mind and coloured to match would make a wonderful project. I'm really loving the strong colours you are using with your set Tiffany.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Masculine cards are the hardest! I think I'd use some Versa to stamp the flourish as a background for a subtle design and then add some jute or baker's twine to "man it up" a bit.

    ReplyDelete

I can see using the set with versamark on enchanted evening or spring rain. I would use it as a background surrounding a focal image like a skate boarder or snow boarder (so it looks like wind or flying snow). I've got two boys and seem to always be needing a boy card for their friends.
